Mayor to Answer Questions at Senior Center

All the latest information from the Enfield Senior Center.

Mayor Scott Kaupin will be visiting the Enfield Senior Center on Thursday, March 29, at 1 p.m.  Mayor Kaupin will give an update on the High School Consolidation and answer all of your questions.  What a great opportunity to learn firsthand about plans for the Town of Enfield!

The next session of classes is beginning.  It is a great time to improve your balance with a Tai Chi class.  Tai Chi Chih is a simpler form of Tai Chi that focuses on balance and stress reduction and is offered on Mondays at 2:15 p.m.  Introduction to Tai Chi is a basic class for those who have no experience with Tai Chi and it is offered on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. If you are interested in furthering you Tai Chi practice, Tai Chi Advanced Beginner and Tai Chi Intermediate are options on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.  Learn about all of our classes in our newsletter, Front & Center or online at www.enfield-ct.gov

The Zumba Gold Chair class was very popular in the four-week trial.  The next session of 7 classes begins on Tuesday, March 13.  The music is upbeat and fun and it is a great cardiovascular workout.  It is the same Zumba Gold class just modified for a seated position.  The fee is $21 for residents and $28 for nonresidents.

Join us for a free Tablet and Smartphone Training on Friday, March 23 at 10 a.m.  Learn about what a smart phone or tablet can do for you with representatives from Verizon Wireless Express on Hazard Avenue.  Bring your smart phone or tablet if you have one and want to learn more about it.  Please register by calling the office.  

Enfield native Cameron Sutphin will be entertaining on Wednesday March 7, at 1 p.m. for a free country music show.  Cameron will play a selection of music made famous by Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings and more.

Enjoy an afternoon of dancing on Friday, March 9, at 2 p.m.  Richie Mitnick plays the music for the Afternoon Ballroom Dance.  A snack is provided and the fee is $3 at the door.

“Moneyball” with Brad Pitt is the movie for Movie & Ham Grinder Night on Thursday, March 15.  The movie begins at 6 p.m. and dinner is served at 5 p.m. The cost is $5 for the meal and movie and $2 for just the movie.  Please buy your tickets in advance.

We are celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with two different events.  Come to one or come to both.  You can’t celebrate St. Patrick’s Day too much!  On Thursday, March 15, at 1 p.m., local Irish band, Irish to the Last Drop, will entertain with traditional Celtic ballads, Irish pub songs, and fun sing-a-longs.  The event is free and you may want to consider making a reservation for the Community Café meal that day by calling 860-763-7428.  Bushel of Blarney entertains on Friday, March 16, but first enjoy a served corned beef and cabbage dinner.  Tickets are on sale for this event for $14 for residents and $15 for non-residents.

If you are a 50+ adult who would like to sharpen your computer skills, register for MS Office 2007 beginning Tuesday, March 6, from 6 to 8 p.m.  Learn the basics of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher.  Improve your job skills.  The fee is $24 for residents and $32 for non-residents.

Through a partnership with Asnuntuck Community College and the Enfield Senior Center, we are bringing together war veterans of different ages.  If you are a veteran of World War II, The Korean Conflict, or the Vietnam War, and would be interested in meeting with younger veterans to discuss shared experiences, please give me a call or e-mail.
