Maine Earthquake Rattles Connecticut Homes

There were numerous reports of tremors throughout north central Connecticut. In southeastern Connecticut, several residents report shaking homes, vibrations. Where were you when you felt the tremors?

A message from the Connecticut Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security:

According to the United States Geological Survey, a 4.6 magnitude earthquake occurred at 7:12 PM tonight 3 miles west of Hollis Center, Maine. There are numerous reports of this quake being felt in parts of Connecticut. At this time, no damage has been reported. The Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security will continue to monitor the situation.

An earthquake centered in Maine, measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale, was powerful enough to shake homes in northern Connecticut early Tuesday evening.

The quake, which occurred around 7:12 p.m., had its epicenter 13 miles northwest of Saco, Maine, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Tremors could be felt throughout eastern and central Connecticut Tuesday evening.

In Montville, residents talked about feeling shaking, vibrations and trembling on Raymond Hill Road and other areas of Uncasville on our Facebook page.

Numerous postings on the Enfield Patch Facebook page indicated the tremors were felt throughout northern Connecticut.

Enfield Director of Emergency Management Dan Vindigni said he spoke with Lt. Willie Pedemonti of the Enfield Police Department shortly before 8 p.m., and was informed there were no reports of damage in the town.
