Four-Goal Third Period Powers South Windsor Past Falcons

Two goals in the opening minute of the final period prove decisive as Bobcats capture 5-1 victory.

Chris Gionfriddo broke open a tight game by scoring twice in the first 43 seconds of the third period, propelling South Windsor to a 5-1 victory over Fermi-Enfield/East Granby/Stafford in CCC North ice hockey action Wednesday at the Enfield Twin Rinks.

A first-period unassisted goal by Josh O'Neal gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead, which held up through the second intermission. South windsor killed off a 5-on-3 Falcon advantage near the end of the second period.

Gionfriddo, assisted by O'Neal and Connor Hibbs, scored just eight seconds into the final session, then scored again 35 seconds later, assisted by O'Neal.

The Falcons got back into the game when Jason Despard scored, assisted by Brian Riley and Ryan Zetterholm, during a 5-on-3 power play with 11:01 to play. The Bobcats immediately squashed the momentum when Nick Jones netted a shorthanded goal 13 seconds later, set up by Rick Landino.

Chris Jones capped the scoring with 8:46 remaining, assisted by Tyler Dowdy.

Aidan Cain stopped 25 shots to earn the victory in goal for the Bobcats. Aaron Lickwar had 22 saves for the Falcons.

South Windsor (1-2) will be taking part in the West Haven Christmas Tournament, beginning Saturday against Glastonbury. Fermi-Enfield/East Granby/Stafford (1-1-1) meets Tri-Town Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Twin Rinks.
