Enfield Homeowner Finds Unique Use For Old Vehicle

Mike Drinkwine has created a large planter out of an old Jeep.

Many people plant gardens in the spring, but Mike Drinkwine of Enfield took the concept to another level this year.

The O'Hear Avenue resident owns a Jeep CJ-5 that is not currently operational. He plans to restore it, but in the meantime, he is showcasing it on his front lawn in unique fashion.

Drinkwine partially buried the body of the Jeep, known as "Little Miss Daisy", and planted wildflowers to grow inside.

"I had the Jeep for about 10 years and used to drive it year-round, even in winter, until it blew the motor," Drinkwine explained. He said he was tired of seeing the vehicle take up space in his driveway, but at the same time, wanted it to be functional until he is ready to restore it. Hence, an oversized planter that has become the talk of the neighborhood.

"People are constantly coming over to see it and take pictures," Drinkwine said. "The police have come down to see it - people from all over town."

After setting up the planter, Drinkwine thought he should check with town officials to see if a special permit was needed.

"The people at Town Hall told me it's a piece of art, and that they love to see people be creative," he said.

Drinkwine did not indicate how long he would keep the Jeep in his yard; he has no definite timetable for the restoration process.
